Care instructions
A newly pierced hole is a small wound, so it is important to take proper care of it during the healing period to prevent infection. You can minimize the risk of infection by following these care instructions.
1. Never touch your ears with unclean hands.
2. Thoroughly clean your new ear piercings (front and back) every morning and evening. Leave the earrings in while cleaning.
- Use liquid soap and rinse thoroughly with running water when showering or washing your hair. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or cotton swab.
- Alternatively, you can clean them with Blomdahl cleansing wipes, which are gentle on your skin.
3. Make sure the area around the new piercing is always clean, dry, and well ventilated.
4. Cover your ears when using hairspray, perfume, makeup, hair dye, etc.
5. Take extra care when pulling clothes over your head so the earrings do not get caught in them.
6. If you swim in a pool, lake, or sea: Wait as long as possible before swimming and avoid putting your head underwater. After swimming, clean the area with either liquid soap or Blomdahl Piercing Aftercare cleansing wipes.
7. After about 6 weeks (about 12 weeks for cartilage), you can replace the earrings with other earrings.
8. It can take up to a year for the piercing to heal completely, so keep the following in mind:
Do not go without earrings, as the hole may shrink and/or close up again.
Take care when changing earrings. The newly formed skin inside the piercing is thin and fragile, so it is easily damaged and infection can occur. Therefore, always clean the earring and your hands before changing earrings, and continue to keep the piercing dry, clean, and well ventilated.
If you use earrings with butterfly backs, do not press the backs tightly against the back of your ear.
The risk of developing contact allergies is highest during the first year after piercing. You should therefore also take extra care when choosing earrings.
Important
Redness, swelling, pain, or a rash may be signs of infection. If the piercing is in the soft part of the ear, i.e. the earlobe, remove the earring and wash the area. If it has not improved by the next day, contact your doctor. If the piercing is in the cartilage, remove the earring, wash the area, and contact your doctor immediately.
