Women we admire: Signe Thielsen

Interview with Signe Thielsen

Actress

My name is Signe, I’m 29 years old and live in Copenhagen. In recent years, I’ve trained and worked as an actress – a path that has always felt natural to me in many ways. It was never really a question of whether I should go in that direction, but rather how. I grew up in Kolding with my lovely family – not in a home filled with pianos or a classical artistic background, but with incredible support from home. Without that support, my journey would probably have looked very different.

What I’m most passionate about is moving people – and being moved myself. Feeling meaning in what I do and contributing to something that makes the audience or viewer feel something within themselves. It could be a shift, a reflection, a big or small emotion, a thought – or maybe just a laugh.

Creating and being creative has always spoken to me – especially when I can do it together with others. I believe we can do a lot on our own, but even more together, and that’s where I’m always drawn to.

What challenge has truly shaped you – and what did you learn from it?

One of the biggest challenges has probably been entering an industry where there is no clear path or guarantees. It can be difficult to deal with the uncertainty and to keep believing that there is space for you. I’ve learned that patience and persistence can be just as important as talent – and that you grow when you stay in the process, even when it’s hard.

What are you dreaming about right now – big or small – and what are you doing to get closer to it?

Right now, I’m actually dreaming about something as practical as finding a home in Copenhagen – the housing market here is crazy! But I have many dreams, both big and small – I love to dream. I dream of experiencing more of the world, meeting interesting people, cultures and art. And on a bigger scale, I hope for peace in the world and a long, happy life where the people around me are smiling. To get closer to my dreams, I try to stay curious, open and ready to seize the opportunities that come my way.

If you could give one piece of advice to a woman who has a dream but hesitates to take the leap – what would it be?

Get on the train. It’s leaving now, and you don’t know when the next one will come. And if it turns out the journey isn’t right for you, you can always get off at the next stop and take the train back. It’s better to go for it than to sit with the thought of what could have been. No regrets.

What inspires you in your everyday life – and where do you find your energy when you need a boost?

I often find inspiration in music. The music I listen to always reflects how I feel – or how I want to feel. I love going to the theatre and getting inspired. And I’m hugely inspired by my friends – they are incredibly smart, just as funny, and always remind me that I’m allowed to be here and take up space.

The Knot collection symbolises bonds and connections – what does that mean to you, and how would you style the jewellery to tell your story?

My bonds and connections are essential. I always hope to stay connected to my anchor – my gut feeling and intuition – and that the bonds I form with others are meaningful and loving. Then everything will work out.

I’m especially excited to style the earrings. I love gold, and I think the pieces are so versatile – they can be styled both casually and elegantly, making them perfect for almost anything. I actually have the idea of lending one earring to a friend and wearing the other myself, so we walk around the city each wearing part of a pair. It feels like a beautiful, tangible way to carry a connection.
