Women We Admire: Cecilie Vinde

Interview with Cecilie Vinde

Co-founder of the Danish skincare and makeup brand Lavinde

Cecilie Vinde is the co-founder of Lavinde Copenhagen, a beauty brand created out of a passion for exclusive products made with the purest ingredients. Together with her partner, Fillip Løwén Nielsen, she founded the brand in 2016 to fill a gap in the market for quality beauty care products.

Today, Cecilie plays a central role at Lavinde Copenhagen, where she focuses on branding and marketing, while she and Fillip share a deep passion for product development. Through their strong partnership, they bring the brand’s identity to life and develop it every day.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken, and what did you learn from it?

The biggest risk has definitely been starting my own business, and doing it with my better half.

Without a doubt, it has made me who I am today. By now, almost nothing can knock me down, because I know there’s always a solution; you just have to focus on finding one and not panic too much.

Believe me, I panicked a lot at first, but I’ve learned a lot from all the crazy situations we’ve been through.

Which habit or mindset shift has had the biggest positive impact on your life?

I’ve always been very aware that it’s important to step outside my comfort zone now and then, because that’s where I learn the most about myself.

On top of that, I don’t believe you can survive as an entrepreneur without a strong mindset and constantly working on it.

Who has been your greatest inspiration, and how have they influenced your journey?

Since I was a teenager, I’ve always looked up to other strong women. They might be people in the workplace or people you meet in your everyday life.

It has always been a clear mission of mine to become one of them someday. Someone who is comfortable in her own skin and inspires others.

If I had to mention one well-known woman I follow, it would be Maria Hatzistefanis, the founder of the beauty brand Rodial. I’ve read all her books and can really recommend them.

Looking back on your journey, is there any advice you wish you had received earlier in your career or life?

I wish I had invested in getting help to work on myself earlier. I now go to Body SDS, and I should have started many years ago.

I needed to clear things out and make more room for myself. That way, I would probably have found my inner strength sooner, and it would definitely have made some things easier.

If you could change one thing for women around the world, what would it be - and why?

It breaks my heart that women's rights are still virtually nonexistent in several countries.

I wish those countries were even halfway along the journey toward women's rights that we are in the Nordic countries.
